San Diego residents must start making an effort to conserve water

With California on the verge of a full-fledged drought, the conservation of water is a growing concern. San Diego is currently under a Stage 2 water alert, bringing with it mandatory water restrictions and possible sanctions against residents who break them.

Responsible families are looking for ways to “go green

Want to make a difference?

One easy way you can make a difference is to reduce the amount of water used for landscaping. The average household uses an estimated 50 percent of its total water usage outdoors. Here are a few suggestions:

Convert to drip irrigation

Drip irrigation is the most efficient water delivery method available today, increasing efficiency by up to 50 percent. Drip irrigation is exempted from the current water restrictions!

Add drought tolerant plants

Replace water hogging plants with drought tolerant native plants and shrubs.

Check sprinklers for leaks

Brown spots on your lawn may indicate reduced pressure in your irrigation system. Make sure all your sprinkler heads are working properly.

Remove lawns

Replace lawns with turf, rock or decomposed granite.
